The Carling Academy in Birmingham
Just some quick words about this place of Birmingham. The list of the concerts is not bad, but the place itself is really common, and the drinks are expensive (£3,15 for a Carling beer !). The size of the room is correct and the sound is good, well mixed.
Carling Academy, the well-known English beer, had opened the Academies not just in Birmingham, also in Newcastle, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow, Oxford ... that's why it seems so commun. It leads to see short lives because that place isn't exceptional (CSS plays just about 1h20, the Hives 1h30) so the bands don't really want to excel themselves.
Finally a very annoying detail concerning the Academy is that all the English people find funny to chuck out their glasses on the floor, and then to break it down jumping on. Sometimes they fling glasses on the scene. At the end of the Hives' live, the dancefloor was totally full of destroyed glasses. That explained the expensive cost of beers. From French people to the Carling Academy: please set up some bins to throw away the glasses.
