The FilmSoc

With my housemates we are really used now to go (almost) every Tuesday and Thursday to the FilmSoc.

What's that ?

The FilmSoc is one of the very numerous societies which exist thanks to the Guild Of Students, the body which take care about the welfare of the students and provides fun for them. You can find societies for climbing, supporting the TV channel of the university, listening rock or indie music, playing video games, traveling, meeting with Erasmus students (...) or the Fetish Soc ... All the areas you can imagine are covered.
Taking part in those societies and get involved is a real part of UK students' life, whereas it is in France. In other words, you have to get involved, everybody does anyway. It has definitely an equivalent role as the part of work and homeworks you must do for your studies. So we can really conclude that UK students' life is composed of two limbs (Fun + Studies), versus the only academic limb in France.

I come back to the FilmSoc. It is a good way to improve my comprehension of English spoken language (sometimes I take some notes of the words I didn't know before). I can say further that the schedule of the society was good, we have seen good movies, sometimes masterpieces. On Tuesday were the classic movies (prior to 1990's in general) and on Thursday were the  brilliant recent films.

That is the list of films I saw (in chronological order):
Brick, Blade Runner (already seen), The Last King of Scotland (extremely good), Network (one of the most famous movie from U.S.A.), The Queen (classic), Blue Velvet (David Lynch's movie, you never know...), Children of Men (really good), Happiness (maybe one of the best I saw, funny and sarcastic), Sunset Boulevard (my German housemate enjoyed it, not me, but anyway it is super famous), Little Children (I recommend it), Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood's film, always excellent and already seen maybe three times but only in French), and soon La Vie en Rose (La môme for the French, they changed the title !).
